about mr bones

from a young age, my tall gangly frame earned me the nickname 'mr bones'. now the bones are padded slightly, a fact which my friends and family remind me of often, but the nickname doesn’t seem to have gone anywhere. it was a family joke that should I ever open my own restaurant, it would be called 'mr bones'. i never really thought it would happen but in april 2011 my wife kim and i opened the doors to our very own 'mr bones' restaurant.

kim and I met at catering college in blue mountains. i went on to manage restaurants in melbourne; kim went into p.a. work and together, we married and had a son; our greatest achievement. i have always cooked and had real passion for food and so loved the environment in which i worked. there was one problem though and that was that no one seemed to want let me leave my front of house management duties and let me loose in an actual kitchen. so one day whilst on holiday in the whitsundays, i turned to kim and suggested that we relocate and set up a restaurant where I could hone my cooking skills, she could run front of house and our son could grow up in paradise.

that holiday, we daydreamed about menus (simple but fresh), location (with beautiful views out to the Pacific ocean), decor (clean simple and funky to reflect the food) and on our return to melbourne, continued to dream. a couple of years on and we are lucky enough to have our dreams turn into reality.

it’s been a lot of hard work but totally worth it. we kept hold of our vision and never wavered in what we wanted to offer; fresh inventive food, with great service in a gorgeous location. we hope you enjoy eating at mr bones as much as we enjoy running it.
